All Ways Caring is proud to announce that caregiver Diamonique Henley is the recipient of the $500 Home Care Aide Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded by The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC), in partnership with CellTrak, and was created to recognize home care aides who are vital to the industry. The award is distributed throughout November in celebration of National Home Care Month.

Home Care Aide Scholarship Winner

Diamonique Henley, Valdosta, Georgia

Diamonique possesses the compassion needed to be a caregiver. She takes the time to understand the medical complications of each of her clients and she learns how to help each one.

One of Diamonique’s clients suffers from memory loss and sometimes gets sad when she can’t remember things. Diamonique showed the client small memory games and puzzles to help exercise her memory. The client’s daughter was thrilled and asked if she would help with more ideas to help her mother remember to eat. Diamonique created memory boxes with small notes and also set the client’s phone to ring to prompt her to go to the memory boxes.

Diamonique always has a smile on her face and brings joy to each client that she serves. She is a true servant leader, serving her clients from her heart.

All Ways Caring is proud to announce that Jessi Walton received the ANCOR Alaska DSP of the Year award.

Jessi has been providing support and care for a non-verbal, Autistic client for eight years who resides in a group home with other developmentally disabled individuals. Jessi recognized her client was communicating using a unique form of sign language, which she’d created herself. Jessi stayed attuned to her client and learned the meaning of the hand cues. She has shared this information with other team members and residents in the house so they can understand what her client is communicating. This has allowed the individual to express her needs more effectively with those around her and has provided a greater sense of independence.

Jessi collaborates with the client’s care team – consisting of family members, a Care Coordinator, three provider agencies, staff from the group home, and brand administration – and communicates effectively to advocate for her client’s quality of life while supporting specific goals and objectives. Jessi’s leadership on this team has directly shaped the care her client receives. She involves her client in activities so she can have a full and exciting life. Jessi keeps inclusion in the community and developing life skills at the forefront when the team creates goals for her client.

Jessi supported her client by taking her to weekly swimming and Taekwondo classes in a community setting with other individuals, prior to the pandemic. Participation in weekly structured community activities has improved the client’s overall quality of life and has allowed her to socialize and explore meaningful friendships in the community.

ANCOR’s DSP of the Year winners are selected for going above and beyond to provide exemplary service in the profession. DSPs – also called caregivers, personal assistants and direct care or homecare aides – provide daily support services for people with disabilities. The care they provide is essential and the impact of their work was felt even more during the pandemic.
